Update 2:  O suspeito detido pela polícia é  Scott Roeder, membro/simpatizante da Operation Rescue, uma organização que se descreve como«Operation Rescue/Operation Save America unashamedly takes up the cause of preborn children in the name of Jesus Christ. We employ only biblical principles. The Bible is our foundation; the Cross of Christ is our strategy; (...) abortion is preeminently a Gospel issue. The Cross of Christ is the only solution.» Pois....

Operation Rescue, which kept a "Tiller watch" on its website, issued a strained denunciation of the killing. But the words of its founder, Randall Terry, were not so measured. "George Tiller was a mass murderer," said Terry. "We grieve for him that he did not have time to properly prepare his soul to face God. I am more concerned that the Obama Administration will use Tiller's killing to intimidate pro-lifers into surrendering our most effective rhetoric and actions."

From July 1998, when reporting began, until December 1998, Tiller performed 227 abortions after 22 weeks. 91 of these abortions were performed after the baby had reached viability. For each abortion, he was asked to indicate whether the abortion was necessary to save the life of the mother. In each case, his answer was no.

During the same period, Tiller performed 58 "partial birth" abortions. All of these abortions were done on babies that had reached viability. Tiller was again asked to indicate, for each "partial birth" abortion (PBA), whether the procedure was done to preserve the physical health or the mental health of his patient. As expected, the answer given every time was mental health. Not one of his "partial birth" abortions was done for physical health reasons.

On Friday, November 3, 2006, Bill O'Reilly featured an exclusive segment on his show, The O'Reilly Factor, saying that he has an "inside source" with official clinic documentation indicating that George Tiller performed late-term abortions to alleviate "temporary depression" in the pregnant woman.[21] According to reporting data provided to the Kansas Board of Healing Arts for the year 1998, all of the post-viable "partial-birth" (dilation and extraction) abortion procedures performed in Kansas during that year were performed because "the attending physician believe[d] that continuing the pregnancy [would] constitute a substantial and irreversible impairment of the patient's mental function.

To anti-abortionists George Tiller, who was shot dead on Sunday, was a mass murderer known as "Tiller the Killer". To his patients and many pro-choice supporters, he was a hero committed to women in need of help.

For two decades, Dr Tiller spent his life looking over his shoulder. He had become a lightning rod for anti-abortion activists and in 1993 survived an attempt on his life.

A late term life-threatening complication to a pregnancy is tragic. For a family that expected and wanted a child, it's horrible, and the choices that face them are awful.

Dr Tiller spent his life insuring that women had access to the best possible medical care under these conditions. He risked, and eventually gave his life standing firm against hatred and ignorance to do what was right. He was a hero in every sense of the word.

Some of Tiller's patients discovered late in pregnancy that their fetuses had severe or fatal birth defects, but he also aborted healthy late-term fetuses in cases where this would prevent "substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function" for the mother.
